It was a long, tired ride back to Phlan, but somehow our heroes managed it. The horses weren't particularly happy about it, however, and a considerable portion of the "ride" ended up being a "walk." Then that "walk" turned into a "walk in the rain" for a good portion of the night.
Arriving just after dawn, the party was directed to Phlan's only temple: The Waiting.
Luckily, this heavily-fortified edifice turned out to be a temple to Tyr, god of Justice, and thus raised no objections among the more noble-minded of the group. The stern priest who answered the door soon showed the party in and, after listening to their story, agreed to help alleviate the symptoms of their encounter with the undead.
The strictures of his faith compelled the priest to consult a ledger of "appropriate donations by nonmembers," and, after a rather dismaying number of abacus beads were shifted around, announced that each restoration that the party needed would require a donation of 520 gold pieces. Additionally, he can only cast this spell twice in any 24-hour period.
(In game terms, you need one restoration per negative level, and if he casts it within the 24 hour window, you don't ever need to roll to see if your level was "permanently" drained. It will still restore a level if you wait and make the roll but fail, but it will then only raise you up to exactly the xp needed to attain the level(s) you lost, meaning all accumulated XP beyond that will be lost.)
He can also cast lesser restoration on anyone who has had stats drained by poison or anything like that, for 150gp.
Scrolls of both spells are available, though they obviously cost more than having the priest cast the spell directly.
